Thomas Ballard is the Founder of Market Hill.
What do you actually do at Market Hill?
As the founder of Market Hill, I collaborate directly with PE operating partners and portfolio company CEOs. I’m here to uncover the unconsidered needs, looking for those A+ problems.
What are some of your career highlights?
I’ve worked with some of the biggest tech companies and best teams on in the world but for me, the highlight was building the backbone infrastructure (physically and logically) for the 2012 Olympics in London. Had a free pass to a few events and access to the athlete’s village to top it off.
What are your passions?
I used to have long hair and play bass guitar (Wrecked 45) then I got short hair and ran Marathons. I still have short hair but do also do Triathlon. In 2016 I fractured my hip, I was running 100+ miles per week, my body said no. I was told to forget about sports, marathons or running of any kind, I said no. After 1 year not walking I got my 1st Bike and went back to the pool for the 1st time in 15+ years.
2018 I completed my 1st Ironman and 2019 I competed for Team GB in the Triathlon Age Group World Championships.
What about Family?
I married a beautiful, fiery, frustrating Italian from Riccione and we have two smart, tenacious, inquisitive kids (one of each). I’m originally from Maldon, Essex, UK (famous for salt), spent some years in NYC when I was younger and now live in London.
What’s in the name?
It’s a short story, Market Hill was the Hill I had to walk up every day to get to school when I was a kid. Historically to get the best trade you had to be 1st up the hill in the morning. I liked the idea of thinking about home every time I introduced us.
